July was our busiest month at GEOS San Francisco! We had three holiday groups from France, a holiday group from Spain and a holiday group from Vietnam in addition to our regular students. All of our GEOS students enjoyed the 4th of July fireworks at Pier 39, the Fillmore Jazz Festival and the Stern Grove Music Festival. Our regular students and holiday students took advantage of the beautiful weather, visiting many of San Francisco’s famous landmarks this month.

"Hello GEOS! I'm so happy to be your teacher. My name is Natalie Serovy, and I’m from Baltimore, Maryland, a small city on the east coast of the United States near Washington D.C. I fell in love with San Francisco about a year ago when I came for a weekend visit and I never went home! Instead, I made one here. Just like you, I’m still discovering this wonderful city and I’m excited to share what I know with you. In fact, I love sharing knowledge whenever possible and I cherish getting to work with people from all over the world as an ESL teacher. I studied Journalism and Spanish in my undergraduate university, Loyola University, so I have always had an interest in learning about the world and about other cultures. I found teaching really allows me to do that. I have taught English in Latin America and I also worked in Bangkok, Thailand at Assumption University as an English professor. I love practicing my Spanish and Thai outside of GEOS, so I know what it’s like to be a non-native speaker too. Both of my experiences in other countries were really great, and I hope to help others have a great experience in my country. I’ve worked in several schools in the Bay area since I came back to the US, but GEOS is my home base. I'm just about to finish my master's degree in Global Studies in Education. I believe language learning can be a fun and meaningful process especially when students really immerse themselves. I hope all of my students not only learn how to get by in English, but become so fluent in it that they can actually dream and think in English. Please ask me any questions you might have, because I am here to help you in any way I can!"

One of San Francisco’s favorite music festivals returns with Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park from August 12th to August 14th. This year’s lineup includes MUSE, MGMT, Arcade Fire, Deadmau5, Arctic Monkeys, the Shins and more!
The San Francisco Theater Festival at Fort Mason Center will have over 100 shows in over a dozen indoor and outdoor venues. The San Francisco Theater Festival promotes live-stage theaters to a diverse audience. Come see the Bay Area’s culturally and artistically varied theater groups!
This month we welcome our fabulous holiday group leaders, Sara, Ki and Michelle! These lovely ladies are showing our holiday groups the best of San Francisco by leading them on excursions around the city. It takes an energetic personality to engage groups of teenagers, and we are very happy to have these women here at GEOS. Thank you for giving each student an experience they won’t forget!

Hi my name is Stefano and I am from Italy. What do I like most about GEOS? Can I answer everything? Everything is perfect really. Because I like San Francisco all the city, but I like the most Twin Peaks. You can see all the city from there. Coit Tower was really nice and Fisherman’s Wharf too, but it’s a tourist trap. I liked Golden Gate Bridge and Golden Gate Park and Castro was kind of particular but everything was nice. I will miss about GEOS school the classmates and the teachers. Yes of course I would recommend GEOS to another student. I really liked GEOS. We did lots of speaking, but also writing, vocabulary and grammar. I started to think in English and I think this is a sign of improvement. “Wow” is my word to describe GEOS because everything wowed me. I had a really great time here and I really had fun.

GEOS is offering three elective courses: Power Speaking, Grammar and Academic Writing.
Our Grammar course is available to our beginner students (Levels 1 and 2) to develop and enhance grammar skills while listening, speaking, reading and writing English. Special focus is on the language skills needed to communicate and understand basic needs in an English speaking environment. Power Speaking is available to high beginner and intermediate students (Levels 3 and 4) to improve confidence, clarity and accuracy in their speaking. Students will learn to communicate clearly and effectively. Students will give speeches, participate in debates and lead discussions, which will be recorded for feedback purposes. In our Academic Writing elective, (levels 5 and 6) students will write essays, book reviews, reports and summaries required in university level courses. Students will learn how to write an academic essay with a thesis, supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. This elective course focuses on refining writing skills.
This month we welcomed many study tours to our school. Look below for some great pictures:
