The month of November ended with a delicious feast at the GEOS annual Thanksgiving potluck party! Students enjoyed traditional Thanksgiving staples like turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and pumpkin pie.
In honor of the holidays, this month’s question is:
What is the best gift you have ever received?

“Hi, I’m Abby from Korea. At first, I felt very nervous about a new environment and new people. However, I started adjusting and feeling comfortable with my new life in San Francisco, thanks to friendly staff, teachers, and friends at GEOS. GEOS is really special to me because I met many of my dear friends and had a lot of happy memories. Looking back on my 9 months at GEOS, I’ve enjoyed each day. Teachers were very enthusiastic and made enjoyable lessons by using different materials. Also, my friends who I met here were so nice and kind. I joined many activities with them and hung out a lot. It was so fun! I’m lucky to know these people. I feel really happy rather than feel sad, even though most of my friends went back to their countries and I’m also leaving GEOS because now I have a lot of precious memories.
Thank you, my friends, teachers, and staff. I’ll never forget all of you."

December is a wonderful time to be in San Francisco. Downtown is transformed into a city of sparkling lights. A giant Christmas tree is erected in Union Square, next to a large Menorah for Hanukkah. On Friday, we went ice skating at Yerba Buena Gardens. For many brave GEOS students, it was their first time trying the sport. They were wobbly at first, but soon got the hang of it. It was fun!

We also celebrated our GEOS Holiday Party with snacks, cider and a white elephant gift exchange. There was a lot of laughter as students tried to nab the best presents. A gray and black scarf was a coveted gift- it was stolen twice! In the end, everybody got something they wanted.
